Excellent: So glad I read this

Excellent book. The best way to describe this book is a combination of elements similar to that of: The Hunger Games The Chronicles of Narnia Beauty and the Beast Game of Thrones And perhaps Vampire Diaries. It was such a fulfilling read. You feel along side of the characters. It is emotional, gory, romantic, suspenseful and sexy. Someone in an earlier review mentioned it starting slow. That is accurate but trust the pacing because it will continue to build and the action will eventually leave you breathless. Very highly recommend!

This book actually was really well reading other reviews made me a little nervous. But the book does start really slow but it turned into something I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend.

Slow start

Pretty good. Starts slow and the relationship between the main characters really isn’t built well. It kinda jumps from point A to point Z with little to no build up. However, the overall story is interesting and I will try book 2.

Frustrating and crazy game

Beauty and the best for adults

Good story, just too much for one book. The love story is interesting enough to make it worth a read, the action is very raw and descriptive. I will definitely read the other books, but probably won’t be a book on my nightstand

Not worth $14

I felt this book was very hurried. Loved the idea of it. Not a lot of time spent in important areas that could have been developed more for the price you’re paying.. I’ve read better novels that were $3.99, to be completely honest. Definitely a disappointment. Sampled book 2 and the author completely skipped over their engagement and other parts that the invested reader would have really enjoyed... In all, it was a waste of money that I sadly will never get back.

Mixed Feelings

ACOTAR seems like a retelling of the movie not the OG story which made it really shallow. The plot starts slow and the curse was so specific/convenient that it gave Chosen One vibes. While Feyre is not a dumb character, the author makes excuses for her to make dumb decisions to further the plot. The “beast”, Tamlin, is painfully cliche (“you’re not your father”). The villain is horribly cartoonish. Rhysand would have made an awesome villain, but his relationship with Feyre was problematic especially since it looks like he’s a potential love interest. Trigger warnings for romanticized assauIt and lack of consent. The world building was pretty cool and I liked how illiteracy was handled. In general ACOTAR feels like it’s just setting up the rest of the series.

First person but worth it

So I personally hate first person POV’s. Personally the man characters in the books I’ve read previously in first person just lean on that story telling devise way too much, My friend kept telling me how amazing this series was and how I just needed to push through the first few chapters and then I’d get it..... and you know what, this book lives up to the hype. If you’re like me and hate first person, just push through and by the end of the sample you’ll become invested.

Derivative/plagiarism?

The story was decent. The characters and some situations were plucked out of other series, such as Hunger Games, Twilight, and Harry Potter, to name a few. However, the BIGGEST offense is what and how much was stolen from Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series: Daemon SaDi and Dorothea SaDiablo basically showed up in this book with new names of Rhysand and Amaranth. I could go on with pages of other examples. I'm very surprised I havent read this type of feedback in the other comments, unless those were suppressed.

I'm ol'Greg

Enthralling, yet strikingly similar

Loved the intrigue, story development, and characters. Yet I couldn’t shake the similarities to ‘Beauty and the Beast’. It was just too much of a coincidence to ignore, yet I read it chapter by chapter...and enjoyed it regardless.

My favorite fantasy series

Fae have always been my favorite kind of fantasy creature, and yet I feel like no one ever makes stories about them. Sarah J Maas must have the same love of fae/fairies as I do! This series has become my favorite fantasy series out of all the ones I’ve read. I love the characters, I love Maas’s writing, and I love how she brings some bits of classic fables into this series. There’s also steamy romance, though the second book in this series has the best romance scenes. I also read her Throne of Glass series, but I like this one better.

ctbarney

Excellent read! I connected to every character and wasn't able to put this book down!

Lots of Issues

I’m surprised at how unskilled the writing is here, given Maas’s popularity. I’ve read indie fantasy authors with much better writing chops. The sentences are clunky, and loose; the descriptions mediocre, and the protagonist is very 2D. It reads like something a talented 10th grader might have come up with. That said, the story is amusing. I purchased all books at once on discount and hope I can get through them. But so far, the first one is difficult to keep reading.

a must read

Truthfully, I had just come down off a FBAA/AKOFAF hangover but needed more. I had been seeing this series everywhere and just took my time looking at different reviews and the most consistent one I read was that the first book was slow. While I admit it is slow, the reason for it is to set up the story, the setting, everything. It’s a beautiful kind of slow that enchants your mind and makes you want to know more. Maas writes in a way that tells you exactly what she sees when she created this universe of high lords, faeries, and mortals. I loved this book and I’m so excited to read the next few.

Intriguing

I’ll admit, I bought the book a little dull up until the end. However, it was interesting to see how certain things from the beginning and middle of the book, played such an important role in the ending. The thing I loved most were the character arcs. Even smaller, more insignificant characters evolved in some way banded on circumstance and experience. The author did a good job of building characters you can fall in love with and relate to in some way.

I felt this book was very hurried. Loved the idea of it. Not a lot of time spent in important areas that could have been developed more for the price you’re paying..

I started and stopped this book multiple times before finishing it. The first half of the book was difficult to get through because it felt like there was no plot…no end game. I had no clue where the story was going and got sick of it. I finally talked to to some other fans of the series and they reassured me that it got better and to keep going. I’m glad I listened.

Adolescent thought personified. After 9 chapters I put it down ... the main character feels tragically wronged by every other character but no real reason is given. I’m eager to meet an author halfway to “suspend disbelief” and enmesh myself in the tapestry of their story, but the author never gave me any purchase in her world.

Pretty good. Starts slow and the relationship between the main characters really isn’t built well. It kinda jumps from point A to point Z with little to no build up. However, the overall story is interesting and I will try book 2.

Enthralling, yet strikingly similar

My favorite fantasy series

Fae have always been my favorite kind of fantasy creature, and yet I feel like no one ever makes stories about them. Sarah J Maas must have the same love of fae/fairies as I do! This series has become my favorite fantasy series out of all the ones I’ve read. I love the characters, I love Maas’s writing, and I love how she brings some bits of classic fables into this series. There’s also steamy romance, though the second book in this series has the best romance scenes. I also read her Throne of Glass series, but I like this one better.

The author did a good job of building characters you can fall in love with and relate to in some way.

Excellent read I couldn’t put down. How true hero leadership should be portrayed.

Astounding Series

I just finished the whole series and I’m coming back to write a review of this one to tell you READ THIS BOOK the characters and their developments are amazing and the plot is fantastic and it keeps you on your toes at every sentence. This series has become my new favorite without even a shred of competition.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Nesta’s character arc was very well written.

This novel, this series is oerdection

From start to finish. Brilliantly and masterfully given. Savor it like a fine wine. You won’t be sorry you met Ferye or her family.

Love the characters

Amazing

My favorite fantasy series

Fae have always been my favorite kind of fantasy creature, and yet I feel like no one ever makes stories about them. Sarah J Maas must have the same love of fae/fairies as I do! This series has become my favorite fantasy series out of all the ones I’ve read. I love the characters, I love Maas’s writing, and I love how she brings some bits of classic fables into this series. There’s also steamy romance, though the second book in this series has the best romance scenes. I also read her Throne of Glass series, but I like this one better.

Yes!

Perfection

I held off reading this book for months, I didn’t really know if I would like it from other reviews I had read. I was wrong!!!! Once I started reading I couldn’t not put it down. Read it in one day.

kimchisubi

Wow!

I haven’t finished a book this quickly in a long time!

Addicting

This was the most beautiful and charming escape...I got lost in these pages and didn’t want to leave. If you’re looking for a book that is impossible to put down - this is it.

A bit boring at times

It started well enough but stalled somehow in the middle so much so that I became bored and considered not finishing. The end did pick up again and became somewhat exciting but the pace of this book is not as her other series

A New Classic

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a truly amazing story. I absolutely love the tragic ending that makes you want more every time! I have read it twice and I cannot get over how amazing it is. The intricate details through out, the story line too!

Great story

Such a page turner. Interesting world she developed.

Wow

Stunning!!! Everything about this book (and series in general) is utterly enthralling and absolutely gorgeous. Spent a week devouring the first four books and each book was better than the last. Truly magical and I cannot wait to read about Nesta and Cassain. Highly, highly recommend!!!

Read the second book!

I just came here to say I didn’t like this book much. Almost stopped midway through but made it to the end and thought it was interesting enough to pursue the second.. and thank god!! I loved the second one wow. It was so refreshing and I don’t want to spoil it here but if you can make it through this one DEFINITELY keep going with the series you won’t regret!

Yailen Aenlle

It’s good

This book was a little boring for me since I wanted to see more of Rhysand, but I know I’ll see him in the next books and I’ll definitely be liking those and giving them 5 stars.

Will forever be one of my favorite series

Amazing!

I love these books! The book starts off slowly because she has to explain the history of prythian and Feyre, but a little less than halfway through it is impossible to put down. It is the perfect YA novel. I’m curious to see what happens in ACOMAF. So many twists and turns. Love it !

abookwormfae

best read ever

Honestly out of words on how much I love this series. The characters development and the plot itself is out of this world. Literally. love it too much to stop ever thinking about it :(

If it feels like it’s dragging, keep going

I started and stopped this book multiple times before finishing it. The first half of the book was difficult to get through because it felt like there was no plot…no end game. I had no clue where the story was going and got sick of it. I finally talked to to some other fans of the series and they reassured me that it got better and to keep going. I’m glad I listened. The last part of the book was mind blowing. The second book is wonderful too.

Would definitely recommend

It was really good I read it in a day.

Meh

This should be considered a Young Adult series

Ginge_Bubbles

Fantastic!

I loved this series! The characters and their relationships are deep and intriguing. I read all 4 books in the series (currently) in 4 days, and can’t wait for the next installment!

Sixth grade girl’s fantasy diary

Adolescent thought personified. After 9 chapters I put it down ... the main character feels tragically wronged by every other character but no real reason is given. I’m eager to meet an author halfway to “suspend disbelief” and enmesh myself in the tapestry of their story, but the author never gave me any purchase in her world.
